Family Star Movie Review:
Recently it was announced that Vijay Deverakonda is going to work with director Parasuram Petla for the second time. After this announcement, everyone was hopeful that he would recreate the magic of Geeta Govindam (2018) and win the hearts of the people. But Family Star paled in comparison to that film. This film is struggling a lot to leave its mark or entertain. This is a film that will test your patience. The film stars Vijay Deverakonda and Mrunal Thakur. As the film progresses, one feels like not watching the movie.

The main character of this film, Govardhan Rao (Vijay) has a lot of responsibilities on his shoulders. He also has two elder brothers (Raja Chembolu, Ravi Prakash) and a grandmother (Rohini Hattangadi). But despite being the youngest son of the family, he takes the responsibility of running the family on his own shoulders. He understands the financial condition of the family and is always careful about it. He always keeps repeating how many problems he has. Indu (Mrunal), the lead heroine of this film, rents a part of his house. After that she also brings many changes in his life.

The story of Family Star Movie is very thin. You can see one of the CGI dosas that Govardhan makes for his nieces and nephews at the beginning of the film. But even within its scope, Parasuram’s film defies logic. Due to which the audience is facing a lot of difficulties in understanding it. What’s worse is that it almost feels like Family Star was written by someone who doesn’t know what middle-class life is like. Due to which the entire effort goes waste.
lack of soul
The biggest problem of this movie is that it has little depth of emotions. Everything in this film seems superficial. You will not be able to feel anything for the main characters in this film. When the main characters have such scenes then forget about the supporting characters. There is no reasonable explanation for his motivations.
In this story, the responsible Govardhan often brings out the man-child inside him. Still, you will never understand why the people around him do this. Indu also hides some things from Govardhan. The big revelations about his character feel just plain silly. And it would be better to say that the work is about the feud between Govardhan and one of his brothers.
Chemistry
The main point of Family Star movie is Govardhan’s efforts to provide a better life for his family. But in the film it is shown that a lot of Govardhan’s life also depends on his love for Indu. There are only a few scenes in the film which show that there is hardly any chemistry between Vijay and Mrunal. However, this cannot be considered their fault because Parashuram does not even give them a chance to breathe.
Instead, he has paid more attention to funny scenes. But the truth is that the jokes don’t really land. Another unnecessary scene is shown where people mistake Govardhan to be a prostitute. This scene is made just for fun. But this view will give you nothing but trouble. His behavior is the same at the workplace also. Which is why it’s ironic that the infamous ‘Iron e Vanchala Enti’ (do I need to bend the iron) fight scene also inadvertently makes you laugh.
Vijay and Mrunal
The only best thing that Family Star has is the performances of Vijay and Mrunal. Have we seen a better performance from Vijay before? Yes, I have definitely seen it. But he seems to be a bit serious about playing the role of Govardhan. So much so, that his character has so many quirks that it gets on your nerves. Because he plays them very well. He emerges in some emotional scenes of this film. Where his character is allowed to feel hurt instead of just angry.
Mrunal looks very beautiful in the character of Indu and tries to give her best. But his lip-sync in the film is very bad. Due to this you may also get distracted from their performance. She finally gets an emotional dialogue out, but you can see how the words and her lips don’t match.
In Conclusion
Family Star movie is the story of a man taking on the responsibility of a large family and finding love. And because of that it could have been a simple, serious film. We could have also got a film where the hero is content with his circumstances. Until he is forced to face reality. Instead, you get a movie that feels stretched out. Full of ridiculous plot points and speeches. And makes you feel as if you are stuck in a whirlpool of time. Overall, it is a shame that actors like Vijay, Mrunal and Rohini, Jagapathi Babu, Vasuki and Abhinaya were ruined by a film like this.
