Key Names in India's T20 World Cup Squad 2024

Cricket fans are counting down to the T20 World Cup in 2024 and they can’t wait to see how their teams will perform. The Indian team is always a favorite because of its enthusiastic supporters and great cricket history. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has now named the squad for this year’s tournament. Let’s look at all the players who have been picked and consider what each of them may bring to the table.

As the continuous Indian Premier League (IPL) season 2024 approaches its last stage, fans have another T20 cricket celebration to get energized for. Furthermore, the ICC T20 World Cup is scheduled to happen from June 2 in the US of America and the West Indies. India have declared their 15-man crew for the marquee occasion, which will be driven by veteran Rohit Sharma with Hardik Pandya as his appointee.

Yuzvendra Chahal returns to the saddle for the Indian T20I squad as the selectors go after the gold overpowered bowling. Chahal’s last T20I for India was against the West Indies in August 2023. With only three eligible pacers, including Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj, the squad is down to four twist choices: Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja. Despite captain Hardik’s bad habits, the group includes all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Shivam Dube.

However, the astonishing thing for some was that Rinku Singh was not in the 15-man squad, but he grabbed a place in the stores. In addition, he was alongside opener Shubman Gill, left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed, and fast bowler Avesh Khan.

Shivan Dube could not be forgotten due to his IPL structure as he retained his place in the team after shining in the new T20I series against Afghanistan. The 30-year-old has been in scintillating form for Chennai Super Kings and has scored 350 runs in nine matches at a remarkable strike rate of 172.41.

On the other hand, India have opted for a weighty bowling line-up. This includes Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Yuzvendra Chahal. In addition, the pace battery is led by Jasprit Bumrah. Furthermore, he receives support from Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, and Hardik Pandya.

There were no surprises in the selection of batsmen as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav are all normal to occupy the top position alongside chief Rohit.

Shubman Gill and Rinku Singh have secured a place in the side alongside pacers Khaleel Ahmed and Avesh Khan.

One important name missing from the Indian list is KL Rahul, who has been indispensable in India’s last two T20 World Cups (2021 and 2022).

The eagerly awaited squad for the T20 World Cup in India has finally been finalized. The BCCI announces a 15-member squad led by commander Rohit Sharma. The biggest news is the arrival of star batsman Virat Kohli, besides a few invigorating reinforcements.

India will begin their crusade in the T20 World Cup against Ireland on June 5, 2024 at the Nassau Province Global Cricket Arena in New York. This will be followed by the much-anticipated clash against main opponents Pakistan on June 9, 2024 at a similar venue. The Indian group will then take on USA and Canada on June 12 and 15 respectively to explore their difficulties in the World Cup.

The meeting between BCCI secretary Jay Shah and the Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel was held in Ahmedabad to decide the 15-player squad for the mega event, which begins in the USA and West Indies on June 1. All groups must present their 15-player squad by May 1.

Numerous ex-cricketers suggest the BCCI to select bowlers for the upcoming competition. Irfan Pathan favors five bowlers, including wrist spinners Ravi Bishnoi and Kuldeep Yadav. Reports suggest Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul as possible wicketkeepers for the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup. Shivam Dube could also be selected. Sanju Samson is likely to be the first choice as wicketkeeper-batsman. Others like Rishabh Gasp and Ishan Kishan are contenders for the main batting spot.
